Valley CIDS

The local Christian charity Valley CIDS is situated at 13-14 The Green in Swanwick. Launched in April 2000, its aim is to build and strengthen community and to support children, young people and families through outreach work in schools and the wider community. The charity operates through a growing network of Lighthouse Charity Shops, the Saltpot Café, youth projects and children’s work in local schools.

Swanwick boasts Valley CIDS’ very first Lighthouse Charity Shop on Pentrich Road, where clothes, household goods, bric-a-brac and lots of bargains are always on offer. The Saltpot Café can be found on The Green and offers delicious food and a warm welcome at all times. Valley CIDS’ children’s workers support primary schools throughout Derbyshire with Christian assemblies, RE lessons, lunchtime and after school clubs, as well as through a wide range of holiday programmes and activities.

Valley CIDS’ youth projects are extensive and aim to enable young people to undertake a range of activities that will improve their health, quality of life, reduce the risk of alcohol misuse, crime and anti-social behaviour and address the lack of facilities for young people in the locality. Valley CIDS latest exciting project is to develop the 48 acre Charity Farm, off Crays Hill, into an innovative and creative educational resource for young people.
